Why We Do What We Do

Passion for the Sport of Rodeo & Love for Our Community

Passion for the sport of rodeo and the love for our community is what started the Range War Rodeo. Our goals are to keep rodeo alive and growing in our area by giving contestants opportunities to compete and hone their talents while giving the community great events to celebrate our rich heritage together.

Promoting tourism by showing visitors all that our region has to offer and giving them a taste of Wyoming’s oldest, most vibrant sport is also an area we are very focused on.

With another goal of becoming Buffalo’s first professional rodeo in the years to come, we are building the strong foundation needed to grow into a premier event.

As a Certified Veterinary Technician, Ashley has spent over 20 years dedicated to the health and well-being of animals. After relocating with her family to Wyoming, she fully embraced the western lifestyle and deepened her involvement in the rodeo community.

Ashley has served on the board of the former Buffalo Night Rodeos, currently leads the sponsorship and funding efforts for the Kaycee Rodeos, and now sits as Treasurer on the Range War Board. She is deeply committed to preserving and growing the sport and tradition of rodeo and works tirelessly to ensure that the youth of Buffalo, Wyoming, continue to have access to these meaningful experiences.

Chet Johnson

Raised and graduated in Lusk, Wyoming, Chet built a foundation in agriculture and leadership by earning an Ag Business degree from Sheridan College. A lifelong cowboy, he began riding saddle broncs at age 14 and quickly made his mark—winning the Wyoming State High School Saddle Bronc Riding Championship and competing regularly at the Buffalo and Kaycee night rodeos.

Since turning professional in 2001, he has established himself as a dominant force in the sport. He is a four-time National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifier, an eight-time Canadian Finals Rodeo qualifier, a Canadian Saddle Bronc Champion, a National Circuit Finals Champion, and has claimed titles as both Mountain States Circuit Finals Champion and Mountain States Circuit Champion.

Beyond the arena, Chet has contributed to the sport’s leadership and growth. He served four years on the PRCA Board of Directors and is currently in his third year serving on the NFR Committee. His passion lies in keeping the sport of rodeo strong and growing by mentoring young athletes, helping them develop their skills, and creating more opportunities for them to learn and compete.
